Ripon, WI -- Lana Wieseman, a sophomore forward for the Beloit College Women's Basketball team from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (Badger), and James Lazarcik, a senior forward for the Beloit College Men's Basketball team from La Crescent, Minnesota, have earned Midwest Conference Basketball Player of the Week honors. The recognition included games played from December 16 thru December 29.
In three games Wieseman averaged 19.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg while shooting 52.1% from the field (25-48) and blocking three shots. She had 34 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Knox on December 19, hitting 14-22 shots from the field. The 34 points tied the Beloit single-game scoring record, originally set by Nancy Habetler in 1981. She also had 18 points and nine rebounds in a loss at Redlands-California on December 27. For the season she is averaging 17.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg and is shooting 50.4% from the field.
In two games, both wins, Lazarcik averaged 25.5 ppg and 12.0 rpg while shooting 84.6% from the field (22-26), blocking three shots and handing out four assists. He had 31 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Knox on December 19 and 20 points and 11 rebounds in an overtime win at La Verne-California on December 29. For the season he averages 18.1 ppg and 8.2 rpg while shooting 69.5% from the field with 10 blocked shots. In the win at La Verne he became the 20th member of the Beloit 1,000-Point Club. He also grabbed his 600th career rebound against Knox.
The Buccaneer Men complete their California trip this afternoon at the University of Redlands. Both squads are then off until they travel to St. Norbert College on January 8 for an MWC game.
