Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team did everything they could in making up a big deficit in their first game of 2013.  But they came up just short in a 62-55 loss at Grinnell College.

The Buccaneers were fighting from behind from the beginning.  The Pioneers scored the first seven points of the game but Beloit put together a 7-2 run to pull back within 9-7 at the 15:34 mark.  Grinnell got their lead back up to 18-11 over the next five minutes but a 12-3 run gave the Bucs their first lead of the contest at 23-21 with 6:31 left in the half on a Lana Wieseman layin.  GC then closed the half on a 13-4 run to lead 34-27 at the break.

Grinnell continued their run in the first four minutes of the second half with a 13-2 run out of the lockerroom to lead 47-29.  The Buccaneers started chipping away, outscoring the Pioneers 26-11 over ten minutes to pull within three at 58-55 with 2:59 remaining.  But that was as close as they'd get as GC held on.

Wieseman had 14 points, as did Kandace Fox, who battled foul trouble to finish with 14 points and seven rebounds.  Taylor Grace Silar had nine points and Jenna Larsen 11 rebounds.

Beloit returns to Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon to host Illinois College in a 4:00 p.m. tip.
