Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team fell just short in a key Midwest Conference game at Carroll University in Waukesha on Wednesday night, falling 66-61.
The first half was all about runs for both teams. Carroll grabbed a 16-6 lead, the largest by either team in the game, at the 12:02 mark following a 7-0, one-minute spurt. Beloit responded with their own 7-0 run, taking four minutes, to pull back to within three at 16-13 with 8:01 remaining.
After the Pioneers pushed their lead back to seven with 3:54 left the Buccaneers put together an 8-0 run to close the half with a 29-28 advantage, the lead basket coming on Mary Parker's jumped with five seconds left.
The contest was tied several times in the second half with both teams looking for the edge. The score was tied for the last time at 54-all with 3:55 left in regulation.
CU pushed ahead by a 62-60 count with 17 seconds remaining and then made four free throws in the final seconds to hold on.
Parker and Diana Sopkowicz each had double-doubles with 16 points and ten rebounds while Amanda Moore added 12.
Beloit is back on the road on Saturday when they play at Ripon College. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
