Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team fell behind from the outset and dropped a 56-45 decision to Rockford College in a non-conference game at Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Regents led from the opening tip and built their lead as large as eight points by the midway point of the opening half. They still held an eight-point advantage at 18-10 with 3:46 left before the Bucs went on a 9-2 run over the next three-plus minutes to cut the deficit to one at 20-19. But a buzzer-beating three-pointer by RC made it 23-19 at the break.
Rockford held a close lead throughout the early stages of the second half, with Beloit within three at 34-31 at the 13:25 mark. But a 9-3 Rockford spurt pushed the lead back to nine and the Buccaneers never got closer than six the rest of the way.
The biggest lead was 15 with 44 seconds left at 56-41.
Sarah Stariha paced the Bucs with 19 points, the only Beloit player in double figures. Diana Sopkowicz had a game-high 13 rebounds.
Beloit returns to Midwest Conference play on Monday when they travel to St. Norbert College for a 5:00 p.m. game. The contest is a make-up of the December 9 snow-out.
