Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team tried to rally from a big second-half deficit but fell short in a 76-66 loss at Grinnell College on Friday night in the Midwest Conference opener for both squads.
The Pioneers broke away from a 10-all tie at the 12:36 mark of the opening half with a three-plus minute 12-2 run to go up ten. They added a 16-6 run in the last five minutes of the half, after the Bucs had pulled back to within five, to lead 40-25 at the break.
Grinnell kept pouring it on in the second half and pushed their lead as high as 19 with 16:16 left. But Beloit put together a 33-9 run over the next 13 minutes to pull to within five at 62-57 with 3:11 remaining.
GC retook control soon after and pushed the lead back to ten with 1:14 remaining before closing out the win.
Mary Parker had 21 points, 13 in the second half, and 12 rebounds to lead the Buccaneers while Diana Sopkowicz and Kandace Fox both added 12.
The Bucs will look to right the ship on Saturday afternoon when they plat at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
