Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Swimming & Diving team set four new school records on day two of the 2013 Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College. The Buccaneer Women held sixth place in the meet while the Men slid a spot to seventh with one day of competition left.
The four new records, making it five in the first two days, highlighted Saturday's action for Beloit.
Dana Olesch broke one of the two oldest records on the Beloit books, finishing the 100 Fly in 1:00.38. That broke the record of 1:01.49 set by Wendy Olson in 1990. She finished fourth in the finals.
Shaunte Moss actually broke her own record twice. First set back on December 8 at 1:11.07, she broke that record with a 1:10.97 in the 100 Breast prelims on Saturday morning. She then broke that record while finishing sixth in the finals with a 1:10.59 on Saturday night.
The Women's 200 Medley Relay of Emma Canny, Moss, Olesch and Cherrelle Phon swam 1:56.63 in the finals, breaking the 2005 record of 1:57.86. They were sixth in the finals.
The Men's 800 Free Relay of Will McAneny, Arthur Staub, John Kamada and Greg Schalla finished in 7:31.75 in the finals, breaking the 2011 record of 7:36.18. They were fourth in the finals.
The Men's 200 Medley Relay of Kamada, Nick Snopek, Austin Smith and Staub was seventh, as was the Women's 800 Free Relay of Phon, Madeline Krass, Sarah Pyle and Haleigh Thomas.
The Championships wrap up on Sunday with the prelims beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the finals at 4:00 p.m.
