Chicago, IL -- The Beloit College Softball team wrapped up their 2011 season on Sunday afternoon with a pair of close losses to the University of Chicago, falling 4-0 and 4-1.
In the opener, the Maroons scored all the game's runs in the bottom of the fifth to break open a pitchers dual. Tara Grode and Kourtney Kingslien each had two hits to lead the Bucs.
In game two, Beloit jumped on top in the opening inning when Grode drove in Sarah Stariha, who had doubled. The lead held up until Chicago tied it in the fourth. They then grabbed the lead in the fifth with a single run and added some insurance in the sixth with two scores.
McKenzie Falker had a pair of hits to pace the offense.
Katy Sandt recorded seven strikeouts in the doubleheader to finish the season with 112, the third-most in Beloit history. She now holds the second and third-most single-season strikeout totals in history and passed Jamie Cassette on Sunday for second in career strikeouts. She now has 347 in her three seasons.
