Kissimmee, FL -- The Beloit College Softball team dropped a pair of close games on day two of their stay at the Rebel Spring Games, Falling to Widener University 6-4 and to Alverno College 4-3.
Against Alverno, the Bucs took a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning before the Inferno scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, the winning run crossing on an infield single.
Beloit jumped on top first in the top of the opening inning when Laura Byrne squeezed in a run.
Alverno came back with two in the third on four straight singles to take the lead before the Bucs tied it in the fourth on Allegera Stanton's single.
The Buccaneers re-took the lead in the fifth when Sarah Stariha, who went 2-4 in the game, scored on a passed ball, setting the stage for the Inferno's last inning comeback.
In the first game vs. Widener, the Pride jumped on top with two in the first before the Bucs cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second when Stanton scored from third on an illegal WU pitch.
Widener increased their lead to 3-1 in the third and then scored twice in the fourth to make it 5-1. Another run in the sixth made it 6-1 before the Bucs started a comeback, scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth.
McKenzie Falker and Tess Jacquez each had RBI's in the inning while Falker scored the third run on an errant throw to third by the Widener catcher. But that was as close as Beloit would get as both teams went scoreless in the seventh.
The Buccaneers play Alverno again in the first of two games on Wednesday followed by a contest against Rochester Institute of Technology. Action begins at 1:00 p.m. EST.
