Rock Island, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team finished up their 2014 season with a 21-4 loss at undefeated Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference-leader Augustana College on Sunday, closing out with a 10-7 overall record, 6-4 in the MWLC.
Despite the loss the second-season program showed marked improvement compared with their inaugural campaign. The 2014 Buccaneers posted a 10-win season, compared to just four victories in 2013, and the six MWLC victories and battle for a spot in the Conference Tournament into the season's final weekend is much different from last season's two wins in league play.
Augustana scored the first six goals of the game before Libby Storrick hit the back of the net at the 22:00 mark. After a seventh AC goal Michelle Dillon made it 7-2 at 19:30. But the Vikings scored nine goals to close out the first half for a 16-2 lead at the break.
The Vikings upped their nine-goal run to 14 straight after scoring the first five in the second half. Sara Fithian stopped the run, and closed out the scoring, with back-to-back goals with 2:50 and 28 seconds remaining, the second goal coming from the free position.
Marie Bonine made six saves in net in the opening half while Celeste Jenkins had four saves in the second 30 minutes.
