Women Run 2nd, Men 3rd at Annual Olde English Classic

Buccaneer Cross Country


Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Cross Country team competed in a tradition much older than any of them on Saturday at Leeson Park, the 51st Olde English Classic.  The Buccaneer Women finished second while the Men's squad was third.

Carroll won the Women's race with 30 points, topping Beloit's 39 and Knox's 84.  Illinois College was fourth, Silver Lake College fifth and Alverno College sixth.

Karen Jones paced the Women's showing with a fourth-place finish.  Ellie Waddle crossed in sixth followed closely by Maggie Cress in seventh, Sara DeLong in ninth and Laural Marshall in 15th.  Jessica Vogel came in 18th and Emily Sneed 21st.

Carroll took the Men's race too, finishing with the top three runners and four of the top five for 33 points.  Wisconsin-Platteville was second with 61, nipping Beloit with 65.  Wisconsin-Whitewater was fourth, Knox fifth, Illinois College sixth and Waubonsee College seventh.

Joseph Skurski broke up the Carroll run at the top of the finishers, crossing fourth to lead the Bucs.  Alberto Torres was 11th, Matej Jungwirth 14th, Quinn Crawford 17th and Khusrav Mahkomov 19th.  Ethan Ley finished 27th and Josh Smith 32nd.

Beloit has a couple of weeks off before getting back in action on Saturday, October 5, at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invite in Milwaukee.
