Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team finally got to play on their home field on Saturday but Cornell College made the home opener unpleasant with a 9-1, 9-0 doubleheader sweep.
In the opener, the Rams broke through with two runs in the second but Kandace Fox cut that deficit in half in the bottom of the inning with a lead-off home run, her first of the season and the fourth of her career. That was the only scoring the Bucs would get as Cornell scored four runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to coast in for the win.
Emily Dorjath had a double in the game while Bethany Stavrakas led off the sixth with a bunt single.
In game two CC broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the third. They added three more in the fourth and fifth innings. The Buccaneers never could put together a threat, with Stavrakas singling in the first and Tara Grode doubling in the fifth for the only two hits. Mikayla Martin, who walked in front of Grode's double, was the only Buccaneer to get to third.
Beloit looks to get on a positive toll on Tuesday afternoon when they host UW-Platteville for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
