Decatur, IL -- The Beloit College Softball team couldn't match the scoring of UW-Stevens Point on Sunday in a pair of losses as part of the Millikin University Big Blue Tournament, falling 14-4 and 21-7.
In game one the Pointers, playing as the home team, scored three in both the first and second innings and four more in the third to jump up 10-0. The Buccaneers put up four runs in the top of the fourth with Tara Grode knocking an RBI double, April Apfelbaum a run-scoring single, and Hayley Barnett plating a run on a bases-loaded walk. But UWSP scored four more in the bottom of the inning and then held the Bucs in the fifth to end the game early.
Grode had two hits in the game.
In game two, with Beloit as the home team, UWSP scored twice in the top of the first and 13 runs in the second before the Bucs got two runs back in the bottom of the zsecond with a pair of double steals, Megan Salm and Alesia Hunter scoring on the front end. Point scored one more in the third and two more in the fourth to make it 18-2 but the Buccaneers got one back in the bottom of the fourth on Mikayla Martin's RBI groundout.
UW-Stevens Point closed out their scoring with three in the fifth before the Bucs put four on the board in the bottom of the inning. Grode, Barnett and Martin had run-scoring singles and Emily Dorjath an RBI groundout in the inning.
Eight different Bucs had a hit in the game.
Beloit will look to regroup before heading to North Central College for two games on Tuesday. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m. in Naperville, Illinois.
