Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team did everything they could do to make Lauren McNanna's night even more special. But a last-second layin sealed a 67-63 Ripon win on Tuesday night.
McNanna became the 14th member of the Buccaneer Women's Basketball 1,000-point club with a pair of free throws at the 1:14 mark of the second half. She now has 1,005. She also hit her 100th three-pointer during the game to go with her 200 career assists.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a 15-6 lead 10 minutes into the game and increased it to 21-10 with 5:29 left in the half. But Ripon closed the half on a 16-6 run to make it a one-point 27-26 Beloit lead at the break.
The Red Hawks continued their run into the second half, scoring 11 of the first 15 points out of the lockerroom to go up 37-31 at the 15:31 mark. The Bucs kept working and cut the deficit to three on a Megan McCabe three-pointer with 7:49 remaining. Ripon pushed their lead back to seven with 4:39 left before the Buccaneers closed to within three on back-to-back McNanna three-pointers.
Jenna Larsen's three-point play closed the gap to 57-56 with just under two minutes left but the Bucs couldn't get over the hump. They tied it at 63-all with 11 seconds left on McNanna's fourth three-pointer of the second half but a layin by RC with two seconds left gave them the lead for good. They added a pair of free throws for the final score.
McNanna finished with 22 points, 20 of them in the second half. Nora Polaski and Larsen each had 11 points, Larsen also grabbing nine rebounds, and Lana Wieseman added 10 points.
Beloit looks to snap their slide on Saturday when they travel to Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
