Buccaneer Women's BasketballRedlands, CA -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team pushed a streaking University of Redlands squad in the first half but a second-half run was enough to send the Buccaneers to an 83-65 loss in their Redlands Winter Classic opener on Friday night.

The Bulldogs, who have won seven straight, finally put a little distance between the teams with a 5-0 run late in the opening half to move up 31-26 but Beloit closed the half on a 6-2 run to trail 33-32 at the break.

Redlands came out of the lockerroom hot with a 12-2 run in the first four-plus minutes to build the biggest lead of the game at 45-34 but the Bucs responded with a 7-1 run to pull back within five.  Beloit got as close as 50-46 at the 11:40 mark before the Bulldogs went on a five-minute 23-9 stretch to go up 73-55.  They held that advantage to the final buzzer.

Lana Wieseman led four Buccaneers in double figures with 18 points, 14 in the first half, and grabbed nine rebounds.  Laura Panicali 10, as did Alyssa Capecci, who set a career high.

The Bucs have to rebound quickly, taking on Chapman University, who defeated fellow-MWC member Ripon College 71-69 in the Classic opener, tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time (7:00 p.m. Central) to close out their trip.
