Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball used a big scoring game from Lauren McNanna and ran away from Grinnell College College 95-67 in Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon, their first win of the 2013-14 season.
Beloit led from tip to buzzer in the game, scoring 19 of the first 28 points for a ten-point lead eight minutes in. After Grinnell pulled to within eight the Buccaneers went on a 17-6 run to push their lead to 36-17 four minutes before halftime. The Bucs led 52-35 at the break.
After the Bucs came out of the lockerroom with a 7-2 run for a 20-point lead with 17:09 remaining, GC never got closer than 21 the rest of the way. The biggest Buccaneer lead came with 4:04 left at 91-57 on a Laura Panicali layup.
McNanna finished with 33 points, the second-highest scoring output in Buccaneer history (34, Nancy Habetler, 1981). She made 9-16 shots from the field and 12-13 free throws while also adding a game-high five assists.
Lana Wieseman scored a double-double, her second straight, with 20 points and ten rebounds, hitting 10-10 free throws. Panicali had a career-high 17 points.
The Buccaneers have a few days before hitting the road for a non-conference contest at Loras College on Wednesday night. Tipoff in Dubuque, Iowa, is set for 5:30 p.m.
