Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team didn't have a very happy home opener as turnovers and a tough-shooting first half led to a 95-66 loss to Elmhurst College in Flood Arena on Saturday.
Beloit stayed close for the first 11 minutes of the game before the Bluejays took off, turning a 24-16 lead with 8:57 left in the half into a 47-25 spread with 1:14 left. EC led 49-29 at the break. Beloit shot just 30% in the opening 20 minutes while Elmhurst was just under 50. The Bucs also had 13 turnovers.
The Buccaneers shot 50% from the field in the second half to keep the game in the 20-point deficit but an 8-0 run just before the midway point pushed Elmhurst's lead to 29. Beloit never got closer than 24 the last ten minutes.
Lana Wieseman shouldered much of the scoring with 24 points while Nora Polaski had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Buccaneers move into Midwest Conference play on Tuesday when they host Ripon College in Flood. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m., following the Men's game.
