Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team opened their season on familiar ground, hosting the Buc Blast Tournament in steamy Flood Arena on Friday and Saturday, The Buccaneers finished 2-2.
On Friday night the Bucs scored a pair of wins, topping both Rockford University and Finlandia University 3-0.
Leah Kruckman led the attack against Rockford with 11 kills while Bethany Stavrakas and Molly Schulting each had eight. nCarolyn Stransky recorded 26 set assists. Julianne Gruenhagen had a team-best 22 digs while Stavrakas added 12. Kruckman had one solo and three block assists and Schulting three block assists.
Against Finlandia Jordyn Ciochon had five kills followed by four players with four. Stransky had 17 set assists. Gruenhagen made 18 digs, Stavrakas 11 and Stransky 10. Kruckman had three block assists.
On Saturday Beloit fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-1 and Marian University 3-0.
Taylor Lewis had ten kills vs. MSOE while Schulting added nine. Stransky had 26 set assists and Gruenhagen 20 digs. Kruckman had three solo blocks and a block assist.
In the Tourney finale against Marian, Kruckman had 11 kills and Schulting eight, Stransky made 33 set assists while Gruenhagen had 14 digs. Stavrakas added 12 digs and Ellen Moses ten. Schulting had three block assists.
Kruckman was named to the All-Tournament Team, finishing the four matches with 35 kills, four block solos and nine block assists.
The Buccaneers host Mt. Mary College and Alverno College next Saturday in a triangular in Flood Arena. Beloit plays Mt. Mary at 11:00 a.m. and Alverno at 3:00 p.m.
