Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team had an explosion of offense in the opener but were shut out in the nightcap in the opening games of their four-game Midwest Conference series at Carroll University on Saturday, taking game one 17-3 before dropping game two 2-0.

In the first game The Bucs scored once in the first when Jerrick Habecker scored on a double play before putting up five runs in the second to take charge.  Sean Little scored on a wild pitch, Grant Henricksen triple with the bases loaded and Alex Lawrence drove in the fifth run of the inning with a single for a 6-0 lead.  Carroll scored single runs in the second and third to cut into the lead.  The teams traded runs in the fourth, Beloit's scoring on Henricksen's sacrifice fly to center.

The Buccaneers added a run in the fifth on Will Mack's home run and then tacked on three in the sixth on a Lawrence single and a two-run single by Danny Corral.  Beloit finished it off with a six-run eighth.  Ethan Blumenthal scored on a wild pitch, Little and Jake Parrott had RBI singles, Habecker and Henricksen had fielder's choice RBIs and Adrian Peil singled in a run in the big inning.

Lawrence had three hits in the game while Peil had two.  Habecker scored four runs.  Andrew Edwards went complete on the mound, scattering 11 hits while striking out five and walking two.

Game two was much different for the Buccaneers.  Henricksen had three hits and Lawrence two but Beloit couldn't get that one hit needed to break the shutout.  Carroll scored once in the sixth and again in the eighth.  Ryan Kaveney was the tough-luck loser, going eight innings, giving up seven hits while striking out 11 - a season-high for the Bucs - while walking just one.

Beloit looks to turn things around on Sunday when they complete the series with the Pioneers at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.  First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
