Lisle, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team couldn't overcome a first-quarter deficit and fell at Benedictine University 14-11 on Wednesday night.
The Eagles came out of the pre-game on fire, scoring the first six goals of the game, one with the man advantage, before Beloit got on the board with 30 seconds left in the period on Jacob Pritscher's unassisted goal.
The Bucs made it back-to-back scores when Ryan Hazuka, assisted by Thomas Porkka, scored less than three minutes into the second quarter. BU reestablished the five-goal advantage at 9:25 but Aidan Whinnery countered at 8:48. Benedictine then scored consecutive goals before Porkaa, assisted by Pritscher, gave the Buccaneers the final say at 1:10 to make it a 9-4 score at the break.
Beloit came out of halftime with two straight goals - by Jack Jenkins at 14:19 and Liam O'Connor at 13:42 - to cut the deficit to 9-6 but the Eagles scored the next three, one with the man advantage, within a two-minute span to go up 12-6. Whinnery ended the third with his second goal of the game at 4:16 to make the score 12-7 entering the fourth.
The Buccaneers outscored BU 4-2 in the final quarter, at one time pulling within 13-10, but it wasn't enough. Pritscher, assisted by O'Connor, scored at 14:43; Jenkins, assisted by Pritscher, scored at 12:20 followed by an unassisted goal by O'Connor at 7:16. Whinnery closed out the scoring with his third goal 21 seconds before the final horn.
Trevor Kenahan had nine saves in goal for Beloit while Jace Hodder had two.
The Bucs finally get to play a home game when they host DePauw University on Saturday at Strong Stadium. Action begins at 1:00 p.m.
