Lake Forest, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team hit a cold spell at the wrong time, falling at Lake Forest College 71-61 in overtime on Tuesday night.
Steve McAfee, Jr. had forced the extra session with a three-pointer just before the buzzer. Another three by McAfee early in overtime gave the Bucs the lead but it was the last points they scored.
The game was close early until LFC went on an extended 16-6 run to move up 30-19 with 1:13 left. They led 30-21 at the break.
The deficit swelled to 12 less than a minute into the second half and was still 12 at 35-23 at the 16:43 mark before the Buccaneers got back in the game with a 16-4 run to tie it at 39 midway through. The Foresters retook the lead and kept Beloit at arm's length for the next ten minutes. The Bucs pulled within one twice in the last 30 seconds but trailed by three with 10.7 seconds left on a pair of Lake Forest free throws, setting the stage for McAfee's overtime-forcing jumper from the left baseline.
In OT Lazarcik scored on a layin and then McAfee hit a three with 3:31 left to put the Buccaneers up 61-58. But LFC scored the final 13 points of the extra period as Beloit went cold to secure the win.
McAfee finished with 18 points while Lazarcik had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Beloit looks to get back on the right track on Saturday afternoon in Flood Arena when they host Grinnell College. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
