Beloit, WI – In addition to Saturday being Homecoming 2012 at Beloit College, the Buccaneers will also be “Playing for the Cure” as part of a Midwest Conference-wide, and nation-wide, fight against cancer.
In the Fall the MWC’s “Play for the Cure” will run from September 28-October 7, which encompasses contests for the sports of cross country, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s golf and volleyball.
The Beloit College Football, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, and Women’s Tennis teams will all be wearing pink on Saturday to show their support, as will their opponents. The Buccaneer Volleyball squad will wear pink in their home match against Cornell College on Friday, October 5.
Pink bracelets and “Making Strides” pink ribbon pins will be sold at the Buccaneer Homecoming Football game against Cornell College, as well as throughout the week out of the Athletic offices. Also a “Wall of Hope” will be created at the Stadium on Saturday with all the donation cards that are filled out. A variety of other events will be taking place around the Strong Complex, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society is currently funding 11 research grants in the state of Wisconsin totaling just under $7,000,000.
The MWC will continue the initiative throughout the 2012-2013 season, with the Winter initiative running from February 1-10 and the Spring from April 12-21. All proceeds from “Play for the Cure” will be donated to various cancer charities for research into its cause, prevention and cure.
