Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team needed a split after dropping game one and got just that in a 4-2 win at Lawrence University on Saturday. The Bucs dropped the opener 1-0.
Grant Henricksen scattered ten hits over eight-plus innings, striking out six, before Al Loth finished up for his fourth save and Alex Jennings hit a two-run double to provide some insurance in the seventh in the win.
The Bucs got on the board in the third when Jake Tresemer singled in Jordan Jaenicke, who was hit by a pitch for the 14th time this season, tying his own record that he set last season. They made it 2-0 in the fourth on Sean Little's run-scoring single, plating Will Mack.
Jennings' two-run double in the seventh, scoring Jaenicke and Little, gave the Buccaneers some breathing room. And they needed it as the Vikings scored once in the eighth and ninth before Loth finished it with the tying runs on base in the bottom of the ninth.
Jaenicke, Evan Mascitti and Mack each had two hits in the game.
In the tough game one loss Beloit had just five hits, only two through the fifth. They stranded the tying run in scoring position in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. LU got the only run they'd need in the bottom of the first inning.
Alex Norman was the hard-luck loser, scattering ten hits while striking out six and walking just one. five different Buccaneers got one hit apiece.
Beloit hosts the same Lawrence team on Sunday at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium to finish up the four-game Midwest Conference series. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
