Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team had things going pretty well early but a dry spell turned the tables on the way to a 117-107 loss to undefeated Grinnell College in a Midwest Conference game in Flood Arena on Thursday night.
Grinnell led by as many as seven early before a 23-9, six-minute Buccaneer run turned things around to put Beloit up 37-30 at the 9:35 mark. The Bucs still led 39-32 with 8:24 left in the half before a 27-10 GC run over the next six minutes put them back in control. The Pioneers led 68-55 at the break.
A 10-3 Pioneer run to open the second half gave them a 20-point 78-58 lead less than two minutes in. Beloit kept battling and finally got the deficit down to 13 at 87-74 with 11:50 remaining. But another 10-4 run by Grinnell pushed their lead back up to 19 with 8:53 left. Beloit got as close as 12 with 1:32 remaining before settling for the final score.
James Lazarcik led four Buccaneers in double figures with 25 points while also grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. David Bremner added 23, Tyler Butke a career-high 21 and Travis Towns 18. Michael Horton had nine points with seven assists.
The Bucs look to turn things around on Saturday when they host Lawrence University in an MWC game. Tipoff is at 4:00 p.m.
