Missed Free Throws Hurt Bucs in Narrow Loss

Monmouth, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team came back from ten points down but missed key free throws down the stretch in a 67-62 loss at Monmouth College on Friday night.

Beloit jumped out to a 10-4 lead three minutes into the game but MC put together a 23-11 run over the next 14 minutes to go up by six with just over two minutes left in the half. The Bucs cut it back down and trailed 29-25 at the break.

The Fighting Scots slowly built their lead to ten at 42-32 five minutes into the second half and still led by that margin with 13 minutes remaining. But the Buccaneers went on a 16-7 seven-minute run to pull to within one at 54-53 with six minutes remaining.

The game stayed close for the final minutes of bthe contest. The key point came with under two minutes left when the Bucs missed five straight free throws while trailing by one and MC closed it out.

Beloit was just 6-13 from the charity stripe in the second half.

David Bremner led the way with 19 points while Travis Towns had 15 points and a career-high ten rebounds. Patrick Kenny added 12 points and Michael Horton ten with five assists.

The Buccaneers head for Lake Forest College on Saturday, tipping off at 5:00 p.m.
