Beloit, WI -- Looking to snap a five-game losing streak, the Beloit College Men's Basketball got plenty of production in Saturday's 75-72 win over Illinois College in Flood Arena.
No one provided more than Derek Carrier, who scored a career-high 25 points to lead the way. David Bremner added 18 points and Michael Horton 12 with seven rebounds and five assists.
Neither team could grab control early on in the opening half until Beloit closed the half on a 17-7 run to lead 42-31 at the break. Carrier had 13 and Bremner 11 in the opening 20 minutes.
The Buccaneers built their lead as high as 18 at 53-35 just over three minutes into the second half before the Blueboys started chipping away.
Over a ten-minute span, IC out-scored the Bucs 34-14 to take a 69-67 lead with 5:09 left in regulation.
Illinois College still led 70-69 with 2:50 remaining but Beloit kept calm and regained a lead they wouldn't let go of at the 1:24 mark on a Carrier layup. Carrier hit another layin at 43 seconds to put the Bucs up by three.
After IC cut it back to one with 36 seconds remaining they had a chance to grab the lead but missed a pair of free throws. Travis Towns then iced it with two free throws with eight seconds left.
The Blueboys missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime.
The Buccaneers have a week to savor their win before hitting the road next weekend, playing at Monmouth College next Friday night and at Lake Forest on Saturday. Tipoff Friday is at 7:00 p.m.
