Auburndale, FL -- The Beloit College Baseball team's day started off pretty well. Unfortunately it didn't finish as well as they hoped in a 9-6 loss to St. Vincent College in 10 innings.
The Bucs started strong, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Alex Lawrence. They added a run in the fourth on Matt Meade's bases-loaded walk, two more in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Will Mack and an RBI fielder's choice by Sean Little, and another solo run in the sixth on Mack's run-scoring single to move up 6-0.
What they didn't know is that wouldn't be enough.
The Bearcats started their comeback with three unearned runs in the top of the eighth to cut the lead in half. They evened things up, and forced extra innings, with three more runs in the ninth, all three being driven in with two out. Then in the tenth they scored the deciding three runs, the last one unearned, while surving a mini-rally by Beloit in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Ethan Blumenthal had three hits to pace the Buccaneer offense while Andrew Edwards and Danny Corral each had two hits. Grant Henricksen pitched the first six innings, allowing just four hits.
Beloit looks to bounce back on Friday morning when they play Penn State-Altoona in the stadium in Winter Haven. First pitch is at 9:15 a.m. EST.
