Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Baseball team saw their 2012 season come to a close Saturday at the Midwest Conference Tournament in a 12-3 loss to St. Norbert College in the Championship Game. Earlier the Bucs defeated host Grinnell College 7-6 to stay alive in the Tourney.
Against St. Norbert, the Bucs jumped on top in the second when Will Mack homered to left. Sean Little added an infield single to score Emory Nelms for a 2-0 lead. But the Green Knights scored seven unanswered runs over three innings to move up 7-2. They scored one in the second, two in the third to take the lead and four in the fourth to stretch things out.
The Buccaneers got what proved to be their final run in the seventh when Mack doubled in Jake Tresemer, who led off the inning with a double. SNC closed out the scoring with five runs in the eighth for the final score.
Mack and Tresemer both had three hits in the game. Little had two.
In the opener, Beloit got two in the bottom of the third to lead early. Jordan Jaenicke scored Mack with a fielder's choice grounder and Evan Mascitti hit a sacrifice fly to right to plate Al Loth.
The Buccaneers made it 5-0 in the fourth when Loth singled in Jerrick Habecker and Little hit a two-run double to left center to plate Mack and Loth.
Grinnell got on the board in the fifth with a run and closed to within 5-3 in the sixth with two more tallies. Tresemer doubled in Alex Jennings in the bottom of the eighth to pad the lead before the Pioneers rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to tie it.
In the bottom of the inning Loth walked and Jaenicke singled, with Loth going to third. Patrick Kane then pinch-ran for Loth. Mascitti was walked intentionally to load the bases. After the second out of the inning, Tresemer hit a single thru the left side to score Kane and give the Bucs a walk-off win.
Loth got the win on the mound and also had three hits. Mack and Little both had two hits.
