Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Baseball team used a big tenth inning in the second game to win 14-11 and secure a sweep of Knox College on Sunday. The Bucs won game one 4-1.
Beloit jumped on top in the first in the nightcap when Evan Mascitti scored on a wild pitch. They added four in the second inning with Mascitti and Jake Tresemer singling in runs and Alex Lawrence hitting a two-run single.
Knox scored single runs in the second and third to pull back within 5-2 before Beloit put up three in the fifth to move out to an 8-2 lead. Jordan Jaenicke had a two-run single and Mascitti a run-scoring double in the inning. But the Prairie Fire wasn't finished. KC scored two in the fifth, one each in the sixth and seventh and then two in the eighth to tie the score at 8.
Sean Little RBI single in the ninth, scoring Emory Nelms, put the Buccaneers back on top but Knox pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning to force extra baseball.
In the tenth the Bucs brought out the extra-base bats to score five. Alex Jennings put Beloit back in front with an RBI triple followed by Tresemer's run-scoring double. Will Mack then put an exclamation point on the inning with a three-run home run for a five-run lead. KC put two on the board in the bottom of the tenth but the Buccaneers had their sweep.
David Yordi got his first collegiate win with two innings of relief. Mascitti had three hits while Tresemer had two.
In the opener, a seven-inning game, Alex Norman had things under control, giving up six hits while striking out seven and walking none.
Jaenicke led off the game with a home run to put Beloit up early. Tresemer had a fielder's choice RBI and Mack singled in a run for a 3-0 lead. Knox got one back in the fifth before the Buccaneers closed out the scoring in the sixth on a Mack single.
Mack finished with two hits.
The Bucs return home on Tuesday when they take on Wisconsin Lutheran College at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium in their final tune-up before MWC play begins next weekend. Game one is at 1:00 p.m.
