Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team struck late to pull out a win on Thursday, rallying for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Rockford College 4-2 at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.
Beloit put the first run on the board in the first inning when Al Loth scored on an error by the left fielder after Jordan Jaenicke had singled to advance him to third. Rockford tied it up in the second on a two-out double.
After wasted opportunities by both squads over the next two innings the Regents grabbed the lead in the fifth on a squeeze bunt.
That lead held up until the Buccaneers jumped on RC's third pitcher of the game for three runs. With one out Mike Kovach walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Loth drew a walk and then, after a flyout, Jake Tresemer walked to lead the bases.
Kovach scored the tying run and the other runners moved up on a wild pitch. Mike Ross then singled through the left side to put the Bucs on top and Drew Oswald followed with a single in almost the same spot to give Beloit a two-run lead.
Kovach came on to close the win in the ninth, setting RC down in order. Aaron Bushur, the Bucs' third pitcher of the game, got the win after throwing a scoreless top of the eighth.
Oswald led the offense with two hits. Loth reached three of his four times up, twice on walks, and stole two bases.
The Buccaneers have the weekend off before closing out their regular season on Tuesday with a doubleheader against North Central College. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m. at The Ballpark.
