Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team held on to the top spot in the Midwest Conference North Division on Sunday at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium, splitting the first two games of their four-game MWC series with Ripon College.

The Bucs won game one 5-2 behind Alex Norman before dropping game two 7-1.

Norman pushed his record to 5-1 on the season with his fourth complete game of the season in game one, allowing the two earned runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking two.

After Ripon scored a run in the first the Bucs jumped on top in the second when Jon Siil had an RBI single and Mike Kovach hit a two-run single.

Kovach's single was the 185th hit of his career, breaking Ryan Schmitz's mark.  He also broke Schmitz's record for total bases with the hit.  He set the career mark for stolen bases last week at Lawrence.

Beloit added a run in the third on Drew Oswald's RBI double and made it 5- 1 in the seventh on a Mike Ross single.

Ripon closed out the scoring with a run in the eighth.

Ross and Jordan Jaenicke both had two hits in the game.

In game two the Red Hawks jumped on top with a run in the fourth but Beloit matched it when Oswald drove in Jake Tresemer, who had singled, with a sacrifice fly to right.

RC took control in the fifth with three runs in the fifth.  They tacked on two in the sixth and closed out the scoring with a run in the eighth.

Tresemer had two hits in the game.

The Buccaneers travel to Ripon on Monday to complete the series with two games.  First pitch is at 1:30 p.m.
