Beloit, WI -- Enjoying a very long home-stand at Strong Stadium, the Buccaneers came out of the gate fighting, hustling, and working hard against the visiting Scarlet Hawks of the Illinois Institute of Technology.
In singles, Rose Williams put up a big fight, extending her match-up against Paulina Kulyastev to three games. In the first, Williams fell 7-5 after a big push to break Kulyastev's lead. In the second, Williams came up victorious, winning 6-2. However, Paulina Kulyastev was able to close the door late in the third, coming out with the 10-6 decision.
Scarlet Hawk Sophia Nelson also had her hands full with Meghan Davis, with Davis scoring three in both games. Nelson came away victorious, 6-3, 6-3.
Once again, the pairing of Hayden Lamphere and Meghan Davis sparks a fire, and they were the true test in doubles competition against IIT. Davis and Lamphere were able to bring it to within two points, but ultimately fell to the pair of Sophia Nelson and Jennifer Young 8-6.
The 2017 Beloit Buccaneer tennis team hits the road for the very first time this season this coming weekend, heading to Mt. Vernon, Iowa for two matches, both on Saturday, and both in MWC play. First up is the Grinnell Pioneers at 3:00 PM, then they will face the Cornell Rams, time TBA.
