Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Tennis team had a slow start to the 2017 season, falling at home to visiting Edgewood College in a non-conference match on Wednesday.
Meghan Davis, a freshman for the Buccaneers from Roscoe, Illinois, showed true promise for the future, scoring in her first ever collegiate match. Davis was the lone point-scoring Buc, as she defeated Jaclyn Swift (1-6), (7-5), and (10-6) in singles at Strong Stadium.
Sophomore Priya Heinen, Sophomore Emma Hahn, Sophomore Jamie Kelly, and Freshman Rose Williams showed well, registering points in singles, but were unable to overcome the deficit.
Edgewood College held the reins in doubles, defeating the Buccaneers (8-2), (8-3), and (8-1) for the closeout.
Beloit falls to 0-1, while Edgewood College moves to 1-2.
It won't be too long for the Bucs to try and even the early season record, as they are back on the courts this Friday against Wisconsin Lutheran College, and a double header on Sunday, against Wartburg College and Lake Forest, which opens the 2017 MWC play.
