Beloit, WI – George Williams Jr., a professor of Art at Beloit College and a longtime fixture within the Buccaneer Athletic Department, has been named the new Head Women’s Tennis Coach at the College. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics and Recreation Tim Schmiechen.
"I am excited for an experienced coach like George to lead our Women’s Tennis program,” said Schmiechen. “He has a passion for Beloit College, the students at Beloit, and Buccaneer Athletics that he is always more than willing to share. As a professor he has a clear understanding of NCAA Division III athletics in a liberal arts environment. I know the student-athletes under his guidance will have the best of experiences.”
Since arriving at the College in 1999 Williams has worked closely with the Men’s Basketball program in numerous capacities and was also the Athletic Department’s Faculty Athletic Representative for the last several years. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at California College of the Art, majoring in Illustration, and completed his Master of Fine Arts at Claremont Graduate University, majoring in Painting.
"I am humbled and excited to be chosen to coach the Buccaneer Women's Tennis team,” said Williams. “Working with the ladies and members of the Athletic Department, I look forward to contributing to the long history of the program."
After several matches this Spring the Buccaneers open their 2016 season in late August.
