Rockford, Ill. - In way less than ideal conditions, Beloit and visiting Illinois College found a suitable field to host today's game, at the Sportscore Complex in Rockford, Ill. Due to inclement weather yesterday, Beloit's field became unplayable. Both the women's and men's programs moved to Rockford, and both faced off at 8 AM this morning, as it was the only available time for field space, due to yesterday's storms.
The Bucs definitely took advantage of the situation, and did not let the early start deter their drive, as they shook their slump, and came away with a big MWC win against IC 1-0. Scoring for the Bucs was the ever-present, dangerous junior forward Genesis Dade at the 18 minute mark in the first half.
The win over IC is Beloit's 2nd shutout of the season, and first in MWC play. In fact, the Buccaneer defense was so stifling this morning, they held IC shooters to just 4 on frame all morning.
The Bucs terrific goalie squad split halves in the contest, with freshman Connor Keegan-Lloyd getting the start. Her backline held the opposing shooters to nil, as she did not register a stat in the half. Kaitlyn Erickson came on in the 2nd half, registering 4 saves in her 45 minutes, while preserving the shutout.
Dade lead all shooters this morning, tallying a huge 10 shots, all on frame.
Right behind Dade was Kayla Erickson and Courtney Ceurvorst, both registering 2 shots on net. Ceurvorst also chipped in 3 corner kicks for the morning, leading both teams.
In net for Illinois College, Charlotte Crofton went the distance, and made sure the Bucs had no easy task scoring, as she stuffed 15 saves, while allowing the 1 Beloit goal in the first half of play.
This is the Bucs 2nd win in conference this season, and they look to continue their winning ways on the road, as they travel to Lake Forest for a mid-week game this Wednesday.
