The Buccaneer women’s soccer squad fell to 0-2 on the season after a narrow loss to Benedictine, 2-1, on the road Sunday afternoon.
There was no shortage of offensive opportunities in the first half but the goals didn’t fall until the second period of play.
The Eagles got on the board first with a quick strike off of a through ball just over a minute into the second half. The Bucs followed with some offensive opportunities that were blocked or thwarted by the Benedictine goalie.
The Eagles added a second goal in the 83rd minute on a free kick from the top of the box.
Candace Cunningham cut that lead in half on a fantastic one touch off of a cross sent in from Genesis Dade to beat the keeper early in the 89th minute. With under two minutes left to play, the Bucs ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Beloit keep Kaitlyn Tomasin-Erickson made six saves in the contest.
The Bucs return to Beloit to host Edgewood College Wednesday, September 5 at 4:30.
