Where were you from (when you came here) and where do you live now?

I am originally from Minneapolis, MN. I moved back to Minneapolis after college because I wanted to do something that impacted and gave back to my community.

What made you chose Beloit College?

I chose Beloit for a number of reasons, including small class sizes, dedicated learners, the opportunity to continue playing soccer, I could go on forever but the bottom line is it just felt right. I will never forget when I went to the admitted students’ open house in the Twin Cities and heard the Alumni talk of Beloit. In that moment I knew it was the place I would call home for the next four years.

What was your position?

As the Beloit Keeper, I enjoyed 4 seasons with the Beloit Women’s Soccer team – three seasons of hard play, and one season of endless moral support with a torn ACL.

What did you major in at Beloit College?

I spent 3 years on Beloit campus, and dispersed throughout I managed to study off campus in Chicago and Ecuador. I majored in Health and Society and minored in Spanish

What is your current occupation?

There are many sectors of AmeriCorps, but the sector that I involved myself in is a state program called the MN Alliance with Youth. Through a variety of interventions, the MN Alliance with Youth works WITH youth to to help re engage students in their communities, school and homes. I love the Alliance’s mission because it perfectly represents the work that I do, “MN Alliance with Youth works to ignite the spark in all young people in Minnesota to become actively engaged, develop strong voices, and acquire skills needed for success in school, work, and life.” The site that I have been placed at through MN Alliance with Youth is a program called Check and Connect. Stationed in a Minneapolis Public School, I am honored to be working with young High School women for a second year to help them create goals for High School and beyond.

How did Beloit prepare you for your current job?

During my last semester of Beloit I was preparing for post-college life. I thought about my values - the most important ones that seemed to surface for me were giving back to a community, working with youth in some capacity and developing relationships. With this in mind, I began applying to AmeriCorps positions because my best friend and teammate, Devin Mandell, was also applying and said she could see it being a great fit for me.

It is a given that Beloit prepared me with knowledge for the world post-college. I loved my classes and absorbed a lot through various hands on experiences. I believe that nothing can prepare you entirely for what is next until you are in it and experiencing it. Although Beloit provided me with a beautiful foundation of knowledge, it has been a wonderful and challenging journey the past two years using my what I learned in college and growing and expanding it through real-life, everyday experiences..

Were you involved with anything else on campus?

I was involved in Theta for a year while some of my favorite upperclassmen from the team were involved, I was kind of in Spanish Club and because I lived in Art House I was involved by default. But the best thing I was involved in was the Beloit Radio! Devin and I had a hip hop show that friends all over the country would tune in and listen to!
