Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team was about 10 minutes from an upset of unbeaten and regionally-ranked Ripon College Wednesday before two late goals turned the game around in a 5-4 Midwest Conference loss.
Ripon opened the scoring just under 14 minutes in but the Bucs evened it two minutes later on a goal by Candace Cunningham on a header off a corner kick by Courtney Ceurvorst. Following the tying goal RC scored back-to-back at 25:32 and 40:45 to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Raine Lowen-Thomas cut into the deficit at 52:02, assisted by Ceurvorst, and then Bre Partida tied it two minutes on Ceurvorst's third assist. The Bucs completed their comeback at the 65:21 mark when Hanna Metcalfe scored on a breakaway, assisted by Partida, to give Beloit its first lead of the game.
But the Red Hawks tied it back at four apiece with 9:39 left and then tallied the game-winner on a free kick with 4:42 remaining.
Ripon out-shot the Bucs 22-10 and had 10 corner kicks to Beloit's four.
The Buccaneers are now idle until next Wednesday when they host Lake Forest College in a 4:30 p.m. match at the Strong Complex Soccer Field.
