Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team took a win and a loss in a pair of home-opening weekend matches, falling 2-0 to Marian on Sunday after topping Rockford University 7-1 Saturday.
In Sunday's match the game was scoreless thru the first half until the Sabres curled in a corner kick at the 52:27 mark to grab the lead. They tacked on an insurance goal nine minutes later to close out the scoring.
The Buccaneers outshot Marian 12-8 but couldn't find the back of the net. MU had a 3-2 lead on corner kicks. Emma Schroer made four saves in net for Beloit.
In the home-opener Saturday, the Bucs spotted the Regents a goal just 1:13 into the game. But that was the extent of their scoring for the day. Rylie Partin tied it up six minutes later, assisted by Courtney Ceurvost, and Ceurvost gave Beloit the lead for good at 10:59, assisted by Genesis Dade. Dade followed with her own score at 11:31, assisted by Ceurvost, to complete a three-goals-in-3:42 burst and put the Buccaneers up 3-1 at the break.
Dade scored her second goal of the game, assisted by Lili Hagg, at 69:54 before Hagg scored back-to-back at 74:37 and 77:51, both assisted by Ceurvost, to make it 6-1. Jordyn Murch closed the scoring with under a minute left on a penalty kick.
Schroer made five saves in net after that opening goal. Beloit had 33 shots compared to Rockford's seven and had a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Buccaneers host Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday at the Strong Complex Field. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
