Buccaneers Come from Behind to Snap Dry Spell

October 19, 2014

Jacksonville/Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team got a big monkey off their back on Sunday at Knox College with a 2-1 come-from-behind win to erase a long drought.  The Bucs had fallen at Illinois College 4-0 on Saturday.

Sunday the Buccaneers overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit after the Prairie Fire had scored five minutes into the match.  Enid Gongora tied the game at 1-all, assisted by Kirsten Takaki, just over two minutes into the second half and then Takaki put what proved to be the game-winner at 66:39, unassisted.

Alex Spirov made seven saves, including six in the second half, for the win in net.

On Saturday the Lady Blues scored twice in each half while shutting down Beloit.  IC had a 19-3 advantage in shots and led 7-1 in corner kicks.

The Bucs look to keep the positive momentum going after a week off when they travel to Lawrence University next Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. Midwest Conference match.
