April Slump Continues for Bucs with Setback at Benedictine

April 19, 2017

Lisle, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team couldn't stop their recent slide on Wednesday night, falling 16-13 at Benedictine University, the squad's fourth straight defeat.

Beloit had a good start, scoring two of the first three goals and four of the first six to go up 4-2 10 minutes into the opening half.  Arisbeth Sanchez (Hannah Drexler) scored the first Buccaneer goal followed by Casey Ryan (free position), Drexler (Nicole Dolcimascolo) and Tate Mitchell (Dolcimascolo).  But the Eagles responded with five straight goals to jump in front 7-4.  Dolcimascolo (free position) stopped the run before BU scored two more to make it 9-5.  Drexler, Mitchell and Sanchez scored three of the last four goals in the half to make it a 10-8 game, BenU, at the break.

Beloit evened the game at 10-all within the first 1:07 of the second half on goals by Sanchez (Dolcimascolo) and Kaela Evans.  But the Eagles took the lead for good with four straight scores before Drexler stopped the run and made it 14-11 with 10:47 left.  Benedictine closed out their scoring with back-to-back goals to make it a 16-11 game.  Evans and Dolcimascolo got the Bucs back within the final score with 3:15 remaining but that was as close as they'd get.

Marie Bonine made 10 saves in goal.  Bonine also had a team-best three ground balls, as did Mitchell, Dolcimascolo and Fiona Milchman.  Dolcimascolo had five draw controls and both Drexler and Sanchez had four caused turnovers.

Beloit looks to shake their slump on Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Game time is set for 12:00 noon.
