Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team were finally cooled off on Saturday as Aurora University snapped the Buccaneers' seven-game winning streak with a 12-8 win at Strong Stadium.
The Spartans scored the first three goals of the game before the Bucs answered with back-to-back scores from Nicole Dolcimascolo (Free Position) and Arisbeth Sanchez (Fiona Milchman). Aurora scored at 17:31 to move on top 4-2 but Beloit got three straight goals by Sanchez (Dolcimascolo), Tate Mitchell (Sanchez) and Hannah Drexler (FP) to take a 5-4 lead. AU then closed out the first half with two goals to lead 6-5 heading to halftime.
Aurora took control in the first eight minutes of the second half with three of the first four scores, with Dolcimascolo (Sanchez) keeping the Bucs within three goals. Kaela Evans (FP) made it a two-goal deficit at the 12:15 mark before the Spartans rattled off three straight goals to make it a 12-7 game. Mitchell (Evans) closed out the scoring with just under two minutes remaining.
Marie Bonine made 14 saves in goal. Sanchez led the Bucs with three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Dolcimascolo had four draw controls.
The Buccaneers have the week off before getting back on the field next Saturday against Augsburg College at 4:00 p.m. at Strong.
