Buccaneers' Second-Half Comeback Derailed by Late Goal

April 23, 2016

Dubuque, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team came back from a halftime deficit but a late Loras College goal gave them an 11-10 win on Saturday afternoon.

Tate Mitchell (Libby Storrick) got the Bucs going just over seven minutes in but the Duhawks quickly tied it.  Hannah Drexler regained the lead for Beloit at 21:17 before Loras answered again.  Casey Ryan (Storrick) and Storrick gave the Buccaneers a two-goal lead with back-to-back scores before LC scored five unanswered to take a 7-4 advantage.  Sara Fithian stopped the run with consecutive goals and added a third straight goal on a free position shot after a Loras tally to make it an 8-7 game at the half in favor of the Duhawks.

Loras pushed their lead back to two goals four-plus minutes into the second half before Storrick (Mitchell/Fithian) scored twice to tie the game at 9-9.  LC regained the lead at 9:49 but Storrick tied it at 10-all at 9:15.  That set the stage for Loras' game-winner with 6:39 left.  Beloit couldn't get another shot off after that goal.

Celeste Jenkins made 12 saves in goal for the Buccaneers and grabbed three ground balls.  Mitchell and Storrick also had three ground balls.  Storrick added three caused turovers.

The Buccaneers play at Midwest Lacrosse Conference-leader Concordia University Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
