Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team fell behind early and couldn't come back from a big first-half deficit in a 20-4 loss to Aurora University Wednesday night at Strong Stadium.
The Spartans, a half-game out of the top spot in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference, scored the first nine goals of the game to take a commanding lead with 11:29 left in the first half. Hannah Drexler snapped the run with a free position goal at the 11:06 mark before AU scored the last four goals of the half to take a 13-1 lead into the break.
Aurora made it 14-1 three minutes into the second half before Tate Mitchell, assisted by Drexler, scored at 25:17. After another Spartan goal Drexler scored her second of the game at 20:41. Another AU goal followed less than a minute later before Sara Fithian closed the Buccaneer scoring with a free position goal with 16:45 remaining. Aurora scored four more times in the final 15:24 to end the game.
Marie Bonine made six saves in goal for Beloit and had a team-high three ground balls.
The Buccaneers have 10 days before for hitting the road for two games, beginning April 23 at Loras College in Dubuque.
