Waverly, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team used a big second half to post a key 12-4 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win at Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon.
The Bucs outscored the Knights 6-0 in the second 30 minutes after letting WC back in the game in the opening half.
Beloit raced to a 5-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game with Libby Storrick scoring three times and Arisbeth Sanchez and Hannah Drexler adding a goal each. But Wartburg responded with four straight goals of their own in the final 13-plus minutes of the half to cut Beloit's advantage to 5-4 at the break.
The Buccaneers left no doubt in the second half with their six unanswered goals. Sanchez and Michelle Dillon both scored twice while Marci McClenon, Celeste Jenkins and Kelley Flint each had a score. Marie Bonine made sure the lead stood up with six saves in the second half and nine for the game.
In addition to her three goals and two assists Storrick added five draw controls while Flint had three draw controls to go with her goal and assist. Drexler also had two assists along with her goal.
Beloit stays in Iowa on Sunday to play Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Game time is 12:00 noon.
