Appleton, Wis. – The Women’s Basketball team tied up their game late against Lawrence University Saturday Afternoon in Appleton, Wisconsin, but couldn’t finish off the Vikings as they eventually fell by a final score of 54-63.
Becoming a common theme this season, the Bucs fell behind early after a competitive 1st quarter that ended with just a 4-point lead for the Vikings. This lead increased to double digits by the end of the half, as the Bucs struggled offensively, shooting just 27% (7/27) in the first 20 minutes. It was much of the same in the 3rd quarter, until Senior Melissa McLean (’18 Woodridge, Ill.) powered in a shot with 3 seconds remaining to cut the Viking lead to 3 (43-46).
After 3 free throws from the Vikings, #44 Jaylan Dunn (’18 Manteno, Ill.) scored 4 of her 8 points in a 6-0 Bucs run that tied the game at 49 with 6:56 left to play. The Bucs kept it close for the rest of the game but couldn’t regain the lead as time expired.
McLean posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Shelby Kline (’19 Rockton, Ill.) led the Bucs in scoring with 16 points to go along with 9 rebounds.
The Bucs (3-13, 1-8) return to Flood Arena Wednesday night at 7:30pm to take on the Red Hawks of Ripon College.
