Beloit, Wis. – The Women’s Basketball team took on Cornell College in the second game of a double header at Flood Arena Wednesday night, but a slow start offensively was too much for the Bucs to overcome in a 36-65 loss to the Rams.
Both teams traded baskets throughout the 1st quarter, which finished with the teams tied at 8. The Rams turned on the heat defensively in the 2nd though, to limit the Bucs to shooting just 17% (3-18) for the half. Turnovers also plagued the Bucs, as they committed 20 of their 32 total turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
The Bucs’ offense recovered to score 25 points in the 2nd half after managing 11 in the 1st, but the Rams scored 40 points of their own and didn’t allow the Bucs to threaten their lead seriously for the remainder of the game.
Despite the offensive struggles, Junior Candace Cunningham (’19 Cary, Ill.) dominated the boards for the Bucs, pulling down 15 rebounds to go along with her 5 points.
The Bucs will look to rebound when they play the Vikings of Lawrence University on Saturday, January 24th in Appleton, Wisconsin. Tip-off is at 4:00pm.
