Beloit, WI -- The 2017 Beloit College Homecoming will see four new members join the Buccaneer Athletic Hall of Honor.
School record holders (and breakers), First Team All-Conference winners, Player of the Year nominees, multiple Midwest Conference Championships and appearances, team captains, and dual-sport athletes are just some of the accomplishments of this year’s inductees.
The 2017 Athletic Hall of Honor inductees are: Evan McLeod ’99, Michael Flanagan ’03, Shellie Gazdik ’04, and Katherine Algrem-Feldner ’07.
A decade after leaving the Beloit College volleyball court, Katherine Algrem-Feldner still holds four records. In 2006, she helped lead the team to a Midwest Conference championship, its first NCAA tournament berth, and was the MWC Player of the Year.
In 2002, not only was Flanagan the leading scorer for the Beloit College Men’s Soccer team, he also led the entire MWC. He was awarded 1st Team All-Conference, and was the first Men’s Soccer player in school history to be named to 1st Team All-Region. Flanagan finished his career as a Buccaneer with 33 goals and 78 points overall.
Gazdik was a force to be reckoned with during her time on the track for the Buccaneers. When she left Beloit she either owned, or was a part of, 12 (7 Indoor and 5 outdoor) school records – she still holds 4 Indoor records and 5 outdoor records, 13 years after graduating from Beloit. Gazdik was also a recipient of the Janssen Award during her time as a Buccaneer.
McLeod was one fast Buccaneer. Not even recruited to run when coming to Beloit College, 18 years later his name is still peppered across the Men’s Track & Field record books. McLeod still owns the 200m, 400m, 600m record for indoor, as well as the 200m, 400m, and 800m during the outdoor season. In McLeod’s senior year, he joined the Cross Country team, and placed 6th in MWC – securing a 2nd place finish for Beloit as a team his only year in distance running.
