Green Bay, WI -- Quite a challenging finish.
The Beloit College Women's Basketball team closed the 2016-17 season Saturday afternoon with a loss to the #2 team heading into the MWC Tournament, falling 80-43 to St. Norbert College at the UW-Green Bay Kress Center.
The Buccaneers had dropped their final home game to MWC Champion Cornell College on Tuesday night in Flood Arena.
Saturday SNC scored 12 of the first 14 points in the opening quarter and led 20-7 after one while shooting 53.3% (8-15) with three three-pointers. The Green Knights got the lead up to 18 midway through the second period and led 37-20 at the break.
An 11-0 run out of the lockerroom made it a 48-20 game four minutes into the third quarter and the Bucs never got closer than 24 the rest of the way. The largest lead was 78-38 with 2:56 left.
Beloit finished the game shooting 28.3% (15-53) while St. Norbert ended with 48.3% shooting (28-58), including eight three-pointers and a 16-8 advantage at the free throw line. 27 turnovers also hurt the Buccaneers.
Shelby Kline led Beloit with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Melissa McLean had eight points and nine rebounds. Jaylan Dunn grabbed seven rebounds.
Kelsey Horvath, Nora Polaski and Laura Panicali all represented the Buccaneers for the final time.
