Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team gave it everything they had but fell to Cornell College, who clinched the outright Midwest Conference Championships, in the home finale Tuesday night in Flood Arena.

Seniors Kelsey Horvath, Nora Polaski and Laura Panicali were honored before the game in their last game at home.

Cornell used an 11-3 run in the opening quarter to build a 21-10 lead and increased their advantage in the second period on the strength of a 16-5 run, leading 39-23 at the break.

Though the deficit remained in double figures in the third quarter, the Bucs did pull back within 44-34 four minutes in after a 9-2 run.  But it was still a 53-39 game after three.  Beloit could get no closer than 16 in the fourth period, that with 55 seconds remaining after an 8-1 run.

The Buccaneers finished shooting 35% (14-40) for the game, including 19-27 from the free throw line.  The Rams shot 52% (26-50) for the game, including 8-15 from three-point.

Melissa McLean had a team-high 14 points, hitting 6-8 free throws, while Horvath added 10 points.  Horvath, Julia Moll and Lauren Glaser all hit a pair of three-pointers.

Beloit closes out the 2017 season on Saturday at St. Norbert College in a 1:00 p.m. game at UW-Green Bay.
