Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team made sure Head Coach Gloria Bradley's 500th game was a special one, topping Lawrence University 64-40 Saturday afternoon for their third straight win.
Prior to this season Bradley, 19 games into her first season with the Buccaneers, was the head coach at Wayne State University in Michigan for 298 games and at Montclair State University in New Jersey for 183 games.
The Bucs overcame some cold shooting in the first half by holding the Vikings to an even lower percentage on the way to a 30-16 halftime advantage. Beloit shot 38.2% in the half while LU shot 30.4%.
A 13-2 run by the Bucs in the first nine-plus minutes of the third quarter put them up 43-18 before a Lawrence three-pointer with 30 seconds left made it 43-21 heading to the fourth. The Buccaneers sealed up the win with 50% shooting in the fourth quarter, building their lead as large as 28 several times.
Melissa McLean led the Buccaneers with a career-high 17 points while sharing the game-high with eight rebounds. Shelby Kline tossed in 16, including four three-pointers, and Nora Polaski added 12. Josie Zabran also grabbed eight rebounds. her career best, while Polaski and Kelsey Horvath both had four assists.
Beloit looks to stay hot Wednesday night in Flood Arena when they host Illinois College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
